More catchin' up (September - October 2009)

September and October were full of more 'firsts' for me: a trip up north, a day at the library, a peek inside the Queen's house, a walk through two art galleries, a wedding in London, and a weekend away with my church pastorate. Here are a few of the pics:

Trip to Manchester

04/09/09

Picture from train

As we had to leave at 6:30am, Belinda and I put on our make-up on the way!

Belinda and I were going to take a bus from the train station to the University, but we ran into some of the others that were on their way there too. They were taking a cab, and they offered us to ride with them. One of them happened to the be the "world-renowned" speech and language therapist, Dr. Victoria Joffe!

The church above was the first sight we saw when we got out of the cab.

We went to a Speech & Language Secondary SIG (Special Interest Group) at the University

After the day of learning, we caught a cab into the city centre

In typical Manchester-style, it poured down rain during dinner

Good-bye Manchester!

Henry VIII Exhibit at The British Library, London

05/09/09

I've tried to make it to all the Henry VIII exhibitions that have been celebrating the 500th anniversary of his coronation

My new favourite quote

Buckingham Palace

06/09/09 Every summer for about 3 months they open Buckingham Palace to visitors

The Serpentine Gallery

10/09/09
The Serpentine Gallery is in Hyde Park, and it had a Jeff Koons exhibit (American artist). I didn't really get the art - it was a lot of blown-up pool toys within different objects (a ladder, a chair, chains, etc).

Jessica comes from Dallas to visit!

18/09/09 Afternoon tea at Fortnum & Mason

I got to introduce Jess to some of my friends- first stop, dinner at Ping Pong.

Live Art in Trafalgar Square

There is an empty 4th plinth in Trafalgar Square and this summer an artist, Antony Gormley, started a project, "One and Other", where there would be someone occupying the space 24/7 for 100 days (2400 people). While Jess and I went to see it, the guy ate a meal...not too exciting.

The Giant Chess Set, also in Trafalgar Square, which launched last year's London Design Festival, consisted of two-metre high ceramic pieces on a glass chess board that were designed and created by Spanish artist Jaime Hayon.

Jess and I went to the National Portrait Gallery to check out the BP Portrait Award

Aoife's Surprise Birthday Party at the Edinboro Castle Pub, Camden

My first English wedding of my friend, Vicky

Holy Trinity Brompton, 17/10/09 Love the hats and fascinators!

"Here comes the bride"
The reception was at the Savile Club in Mayfair and this was the seating list

It's English tradition for the groom to give a speech at the reception

The band was AMAZING

Another English wedding tradition- fruit cake for the wedding cake

Pastorate Weekend-Away at Malshanger, Basingstoke

30/10/09 - 01/11/09 This is the Malshanger House

The Colman (of Colman Mustard) Family gave part of their estate to my church (Holy Trinity Brompton), and although they still live in part of it, the Trust house is for HTB use

My room for the weekend - I think there were like 10 bedrooms and three floors
